Job Summary:

The Professor in the Social Work Program, provides educational services to traditional and non-traditional students during the day or evening; teaching doctorate, graduate and undergraduate level courses in Social Work along with doctoral level research and advanced data analysis; and may be required to teach courses within his/her concentration area on campus, off-campus, online courses and possible videoconferencing depending on need of location.

  • Advise students on future careers and have a working knowledge of curriculum requirements, as well as assessment and educational trends in higher education
  • Apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs
  • Plan and implement lessons based on curriculum objectives and the needs and abilities of students
  • Employ various communication technologies applicable to teaching responsibilities and willingness to participate in college and departmental student recruitment and retention initiatives
  • Communicate clearly, positively, and in a timely manner with students, staff, and colleagues, both orally and in writing and eagerness to engage with students, faculty, staff and administrators to develop ways to improve the educational experience of students
  • Meet schedules and deadlines related to the role
  • Demonstrate flexibility in approaching tasks
  • Determine work priorities
  • Develop and maintain professional work relationships with administrators, co-workers, faculty, students, and the general JSU community

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. required, Masters in Social Work required
  • Ph.D. in Social Work preferred, Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years post Master’s in Social Work practice experience
