Job Summary:

The Residence Life Coordinator provides administration, supervision, educational programming, and management in a apartment setting. Responsible for the daily operations of an apartment complex. Provides mentoring and leadership to Residence Life staff and students.  Creates an atmosphere conducive to learning and living, and accomplishes the goals of the institution, Student Affairs, and Housing Operations, Residence Life. This is a 12-month live-in position with summer duties required

Essential Functions:

  • Maintains daily office hours and projects a high degree of visibility and availability to all students and staff members. 
  • Attends University activities, e.g.: University athletic events, JSU Preview Days, JSU Family Days, Residence Hall Association events, Student Government Association events, Resident Assistant Class, Graduation, and performing arts events, and use student dining facilities and recreational facilities to help establish professional relationships with student residents. 
  • Participates in the residence life processes of room assignment; maintains accurate occupancy data for the facilities; approves and facilitates room changes within the halls and apartment area.
  • Prepares and maintains roster of residents and regularly updates office staff.
  • Reports and follows up on maintenance requests.
  • Provides appropriate counseling referrals to individual students, including student employees as needed.
  • Supervises and trains Resident Assistants (RAs), and Desk Assistants (DAs); develops staff interest surveys, and responds to the needs of assigned student employees.
  • Monitors and oversees Residence Life programs and activities.
  • Coordinates the distribution and compilation of student needs assessments and the use of this data in programming efforts and improvement of services. 
  • Coordinates the formation and development of floor, hall, and campus wide residence hall government, including a judicial board.
  • Performs on-call responsibilities and other duties as assigned.
  • Provides conflict resolution while communicating with students effectively. 

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least two years experience in residence hall management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Student Development, Student Personnel Management, Student Affairs or related field.
