Position Summary:

The duties of the University Student Aid is to obtain work experience on campus in offices, labs, gym, the library, and other areas. Duties may include assisting staff and faculty with preparation for research, classroom instruction, departmental operational needs, or performing administrative and other support duties as required. Positions may be filled based on individual applicants’ skills, qualification and departmental needs.

Essential Functions:

SY, PSY, and PSC tutors provide individual and small group tutoring to students in the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) Tutoring Center or at a campus satellite tutoring center. Tutors assist students academically by meeting with students on a regular basis to clarify learning problems and work on study skills.

Other assistance might include: reviewing class material, discussing the text, predicting test questions, formulating ideas for papers, or working on solutions to problems. Tutoring is a supplement to classroom teaching. Tutors may also provide drop-in tutoring assistance to students based on requests for academic assistance.

Tutors must attend mandatory training sessions and required workshops, be flexible and available to work outside of their class schedules, must be dependable and punctual for scheduled appointments, complete tutorial reports in a timely manner, and work well with students in an academic environment. Additionally, tutors must be willing to work with a diverse student population.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • JSU student in good academic standing
  • Minimum of 3.0 college GPA required.
  • Must have earned an A or B in all courses you wish to tutor.
  • Have a faculty recommendation.
  • Must have completed at least one semester of full-time attendance to JSU.
  • Applicants must attach under “Transcript” an unofficial copy of their student transcript as evidence of student enrollment and GPA.
  • Must be willing to tutor during the evening hours and during times that do not conflict with your class schedule
  • Enrolled as a JSU student taking at least three (3) hours per fall or spring semester
  • Applicants must attach under “Transcript” an unofficial copy of their student transcript or class registration as evidence of student enrollment and GPA.

    • Due to Visa requirements international students must be enrolled as a full-time JSU student and possess each of the following:

  5. Official Social Security Card imprinted with “Valid for Work Only” or similar statement.
