Job Summary:

The Director of Systems and Security in Information Technology is responsible for the planning, operation, and service activities that provide University computing support, network infrastructure support, and information security support. Serves as campus Information Security Officer and primary contact for select technical areas such as firewall management and rules, Internet connectivity and network infrastructure e.g., routers, firewalls, packetshaper, etc.  Functions as a technical staff member by completing day-to-day specialized tasks associated with security and network connectivity.

  •   Supervises staff that supports centralized and departmental computer labs, Information Technology Helpdesk, and TCP/IP-based servers and software systems.
  •   Runs the management and maintenance of the University’s various TCP/IP based servers and software sub-systems including DNS servers, Proxy servers, WWW server, DHCP servers, and others.  
  •   Directs the management of an enterprise e-mail system, e-mail security system, administration of campus servers, and various databases.
  •   Leads staff in the technical aspects of Internet connectivity including working with various Internet Services Providers and managing the equipment/devices needed to facilitate the connection(s) comprising the border router, packet shaper, and other devices.
  •   Supervises the creation and maintenance of various user accounts including local area network accounts, portal (LDAP) accounts, and email accounts for faculty, staff, and students.
  •   Oversees staff in the development and enforcement of campus information security policies including supervision of spam interdiction, support of multiple firewalls, enterprise antivirus protection, and other security-related activities. 
  •   Directs the evolution and management of the campus portal.
  •   Leads in the development of plans to effectively support current and future applications as well as growth in the University computing facilities/network.
  •   Manages departmental budget.
  •   Plans and directs select IT-associated projects.  Coordinates the management of network-related devices outside the realm of Information Technology, such as HVAC equipment, security cameras, door locks, cash registers, etc.
  •   Provides direction, leadership, technical and administrative support.
  •   Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Information Officer. 

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or closely related field, and 
  • Five (5) years' experience in an information technology environment, of which at least two (2) years must be in a supervisory or lead technical role  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industry standard certifications e.g., CISSP, CISM, CCNP, etc.
  • Experience with VOIP telephony
  • Experience with PCI Compliance
  • Experience with NIST or ISO/IEC security standards
