Job Summary:

The Senior Director (a) oversees operations of the Office of Graduate Studies; (b) leads and champions the growth, development, quality, and continuation of graduate programs; (c) collaboratively develops and enforces academic and administrative policies and procedures related to graduate education; and (d) fosters collaborative relationships with all faculty, program coordinators, college deans, administrators and off-campus stakeholders serving and served by graduate programs.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervise and evaluate of all employees within the Office of Graduate Studies.
  • Maintain the Office of Graduate Studies as a central resource for information on graduate programs and services.
  • Oversee graduate student application process and ensure the prompt facilitation and review of applications and financial awards.
  • Monitor and coordinate admission policies and degree requirements for all graduate programs.
  • Manage graduate curriculum change processes.
  • Maintain ongoing communication on relevant matters with graduate faculty.
  • Oversee the production and maintenance of all printed and online marketing materials for the Office of Graduate Studies and graduate programs.
  • Oversee data collection and analysis of graduate programs including but not limited to productivity, student-learning outcomes, and awards and placement information.
  • Develop, write, and review institutional documents and processes including planning, budgeting, and curriculum review relevant to graduate education.
  • Oversee updates to and publication of the Graduate Catalog.
  • Oversee exit interviews/surveys with students who graduate, transfer, or withdraw and analyze interview data and to provide reports as needed.
  • Coordinate guidance and support for students in preparation for graduation.
  • Oversee orientation of new graduate students.
  • Oversee strategies to recruit a diverse and talented cohort of graduate students.
  • Coordinate relevant committees involved in policies, procedures, and curriculum of graduate programs.
  • Direct a network of campus graduate program coordinators.
  • Coordinate the University’s participation in the accreditation or program review of academic programs with graduate program components.
  • Plan, prepare, and manage the Office of Graduate Studies budgets.
  • Participate in long- and short-range strategic planning for the Office of Graduate Studies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • An earned Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Experience teaching at the graduate level
  • Experience supervising employees
  • In-depth knowledge of at least one academic field taught at JSU

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution
