Essential Functions:

In general, the University Aid for the Multimedia Instructional Laboratories (MIL) is to have a physical presence that is humble, helpful, and friendly in one of the three computer labs in Ramona Wood Building. Rooms 105, 210, and 309 comprise the MIL. The MIL is open to all JSU students when it is not scheduled for a class. The hours of operation are Monday-Thursday 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM and Fridays from 8:00 AM until 4:30 PM. The University Aids work up to 20 hours per week on a schedule that meets the needs of the labs and conforms to class schedules. The University Aids are provided with the schedule for each of the labs. The Aids sit a workstation in front of the rows in room 210. This gives the Aid access to a computer, the print release station, a phone, and the equipment room.

 

UPON ARRIVAL:

  • Check paper levels in copier and printer
  • Check order and cleanliness of room (cleaning supplies are in the equipment room)

 

DURING YOUR SHIFT:

  • Remain in the front, but walk around and monitor activity in the lab frequently
  • If a class is in session, you may move to the equipment room
  • Discourage the consumption of food/drink in the lab (you may eat/drink the

equipment room, but please clean up after yourself)

  • Assist students/faculty/staff with printing. Printing is 10¢ per page (black and

white only). Students must use a print card

  • After 4:30 PM, if you need to step out (e.g. restroom breaks), please make sure

you take the key with you so that you aren’t locked out accidentally

  • Keep your valuables out of sight
  • If someone is being disorderly or viewing pornography, call the police for

assistance (ext. 8888)

  • Notify your supervisor if any conduct is unacceptable or if any equipment is out

of order (ext. 5617)

 

UPON CLOSING:

  • Push in chairs and keyboard trays
  • Straighten monitors
  • Turn off speakers
  • Check that all computers are shut down
  • Empty pencil shavings from pencil sharpener
  • Turn off the LCD projector if it is on
  • Check for personal items left behind (place in lost & found)
  • Make sure the room key is returned to the cabinet
  • Lights out when you leave; the door will lock automatically (don’t leave
  • something behind!)

OTHER:

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  •  Applicants must be enrolled as a JSU student taking at least three (3) hours per fall or spring semester. (Requirements for international students below.*)
  •   If not a first time student, applicant must have a GPA of 2.00 or higher.
  • selected applicants must provide evidence of student enrollment and GPA (unofficial transcript or printout of enrollment/GPA from MyJSU.

    • Due to Visa requirements international students must be enrolled as a full-time JSU student and possess each of the following:

  5. Official Social Security Card imprinted with “Valid for Work Only” or similar statement.
