Essential Functions:

The University Student Assistant/Assistant Residence Life Coordinator (ARLC) position is a 12 month live on student staff position with Housing Operations and Residence Life. The ARLC  position reports directly to the Residence Life Coordinator (RLC), Director of Residence Life, or Director of Housing Operations and is considered a member of the leadership team for his/her particular residential community.

The primary responsibilities of the ARLC include assisting the RLC in community development initiatives, encouraging a positive living environment for residents, offering advisement for in-hall programming efforts, and supervising student Resident Assistants (RA) and Desk Assistan (DA) staff within the residence hall. He/She will assist in the administration of all residence life activities, programs, special projects, events such as but not limited to preview day, reporting and filing, move-in, on-call responsibilities, training, the food pantry, and special task.

The ARLCs are graduate students who assist in the administration and direction of all activities associated with the operation of the residence halls/apartments. The ARLC assumes the responsibility for the halls/apartments in the absence of the RLC. The ARLC is the primary supervisor for all Lead Night Desk Assistants (LNDA), DAs, and Night Desk Assistants (NDA).

The applicant must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher while in the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be enrolled as a JSU student taking at least six (6) hours per fall or spring semester. (Requirements for international students below.*)
  • Applicants must attach under “Transcript” an unofficial copy of their student transcript or class registration as evidence of student enrollment and GPA.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate evidence of leadership and managerial skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to develop and implement residence hall developmental programming.
  • Show strong administrative skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to interact and work well with staff and students of diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with student groups and committees.
  • Exemplify personal integrity and professional behaviors in all areas.

  1. Passport from their respective country.

  5. Official Social Security Card imprinted with “Valid for Work Only” or similar statement.
