Chemistry Tenure-Track Faculty Position

The Department of Chemistry and Geosciences of the Jacksonville State University’s School of Science is seeking to hire a scholar for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Chemistry.

As part of a University strategic recruitment in medicinal chemistry, Jacksonville State University invites applications for a tenure track medicinal inorganic chemistry position at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2021.  Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related discipline.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to effectively teach undergraduate students in our chemistry program. The program consists of three tracks; a track in medicinal chemistry for students interested in medical or pharmaceutical chemistry, a track in pre-health professional chemistry, and a track with the American Chemical Society Certification (ACS). The successful candidate will have a background in inorganic chemistry and be able to teach Inorganic and Organic chemistry, plus labs, General Chemistry I and II plus labs, as well as courses in the candidate’s area of interest. The position is open until filled with an anticipated start date of August 14, 2021.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching at the undergraduate level. They must be innovative with students both in and out of the classroom. They must be able to conduct faculty-led undergraduate research and be willing to take students to conferences and oversee their preparation to present their work. Our faculty must embrace a culture of mentorship, be active in recruiting students to our program, and maintain active engagement in scholarship.
