University Student Assistant - SSC Peer Tutor - Tutoring Services (Fall 2024 - Spring 2025) Jacksonville (Main Campus)
Provides tutoring to individuals and small groups in the Student Success Center (SSC) located in the Houston Cole Library, 2nd floor. The SSC tutoring program is CRLA (College Reading and Learning Association) certified. If hired, students are expected to complete 10 hours of training. This position assists students in improving academic achievement, supports students by reviewing and clarifying learning problems, and provides useful study skills to students who need supplemental help. Additionally, peer tutors provide subject-area knowledge and serve as a model for students in the techniques, strategies, attitudes, and beliefs that successful learners employ as they acquire new knowledge, solve problems, and complete academic tasks. Tutors may also provide drop-in tutoring assistance to students based on requests for academic assistance. Tutors must possess knowledge of subject area material beyond a basic level; have excellent communication skills; the ability to provide an active learning experience for students by explaining difficult concepts and providing examples for explorations. Other assistance might include reviewing class material and discussing the text and course content. University Student Assistant - Student Media Business Manager (Fall 2024 - Spring 2025) Jacksonville (Main Campus)
The Student Media Business Manager supports the operation of Jax State’s student media outlets – The Chanticleer and WLJS 91.9 FM – by developing financial support appropriate for each outlet. Specifically, the business manager helps the WLJS program director develop and manage relationships with businesses, nonprofit groups, individuals, and other entities to develop support for WLJS 91.9 FM, JSU’s student-run radio station, across all its platforms, which may include terrestrial broadcasting, digital streaming audio, podcasts, the web, social media and other forms of media. The business manager maintains contact with existing patrons and advertisers and initiates contact with potential new patrons and advertisers to develop financial and other forms of support for WLJS and The Chanticleer in their mission to serve JSU students and the broader university community. The business manager also manages the sale and publication of advertising for The Chanticleer across all its platforms, which may include the web, social media, print and other forms of media. As a member of the student media staff, the business manager works closely with the other student staff members and with the director of student media. The business manager also must be or become familiar with FCC requirements pertaining to WLJS’s broadcast license and help ensure compliance with those requirements from the student staff and in the station’s agreements with patrons. Specifically, the news & talk director is responsible for developing informational and entertainment programming that relies on speech and conversation to ensure WLJS provides programs that are of value to JSU students and the broader university community. The news & talk director must be or become familiar with the Society of Professional Journalists’ Code of Ethics and use the code as a guide. Specifically, the music director is responsible for reviewing and selecting music for WLJS’s regular programming, preparing song lists for rotation shifts and specialty music shows to ensure WLJS provides music programming that is of value to JSU students and the broader university community. As a member of the WLJS student staff, the music director works closely with the other student staff members and with the director of student media. The music director must be or become familiar with music rights licensing requirements and help ensure the station’s compliance with those requirements. The music director also must be or become familiar with FCC requirements pertaining to WLJS’s broadcast license and help ensure compliance with those requirements from the student staff. University Student Assistant - Model for Art Department (Fall 2024 - Spring 2025) Jacksonville (Main Campus)
The University Student Assistant/ Art Model position will allow you to obtain work experience in the Figure Drawing/ Painting classes as a model. Graduate Teaching Assistant - Geography (Fall 2024 - Spring 2025) Jacksonville (Main Campus)
The duties of the Graduate Teaching Assistant, under the supervision of the faculty and/or staff, may include assisting faculty with various lab related tasks, performing classroom instruction, as well as other academic support duties, and departmental operational needs, and other associated and clerical duties as assigned. Teaching schedule will vary dependent upon lab schedule, lab prep, in class lab time, and post lab work. The position requires the graduate student to teach labs in Physical Geography I, Physical Geography II, Physical Geology, and Historical Geology. The TA will teach three labs each semester and spend approximately twenty hours grading and prepping for future labs. University Student Assistant - Supplemental Instruction (Fall 2024 - Spring 2025) Jacksonville (Main Campus)
Supplemental Instruction (SI) is an academic support program that targets historically difficult courses. SI sessions are regularly scheduled, out-of-class review sessions for all students enrolled in a targeted course. The sessions are informal seminars in which students review notes, discuss readings, develop organizational tools, and prepare for examinations. Students learn how to integrate course content with reasoning and study skills. SI sessions are conducted by a student leader who has successfully completed the course, attends the course, and works with the professor to design collaborative learning sessions for the students to attend on a voluntary basis. SI leaders support classroom instruction in every way. Likewise, the SI program is offered only in classes where the faculty member understands and supports Supplemental Instruction. University Student Assistant - Gamecock Guides (Fall 2024 - Summer 2025) Jacksonville (Main Campus)
Interested in being a student tour guide? The Gamecock Student Tour Guides administer daily tours to potential students and families, along with university employees and partners! As a front facing student leader, the Gamecock Guides are expected to uphold university branding standards, both on and off the clock, while being able to confidently illustrate one’s university knowledge. Gamecock Guides may be required to work event days such as Admitted Student Days, Preview Days and undergo mandatory team training. When not administering a tour, the Gamecock Guides will be assisting with daily administrative tasks such as answering calls, emails, and providing excellent customer service practices. The System Administrator is the lead in systems administration, installation, configuration and maintenance of hardware and software in a diverse multi-platform server environment.  Understands complex relationships between components of the overall systems architecture. Has vast knowledge of operating system internals, file system structures and machine architectures, working experience with Linux and Windows system administrator tools, Linux shell scripts and powershell scripting.
