Job Summary:

The Public Safety Services Supervisor is a non-sworn position with responsibility for the supervision, administration, and enforcement of university parking rules and regulations with additional safety, security, and public safety support coordination responsibilities.  Work includes the protection of life and property primarily through providing mostorist assistance, escorts, and the enforcement of university parking regulations to include managing all aspects of the parking system. Duties also include limited protective work in the guarding and securing grounds and facilities against loss or damage; monitoring and inspecting grounds and facilities safety and security procedures, regulations, and enforcement, and providing public safety logistics support. This position will assist university other safety/security and police officers upon request. Work may involve the use of independent judgement in responding to emergencies. Work is frequently performed outdoors in all weather conditions. Employee may be assigned to day or evening shift and may be called to work odd hours for special events or activities on campus. Work is performed under general supervision and in accordance with established routine and guidelines checked by personal inspections, review of reports, and discussions with supervisor.

Essential Functions:

  • Administrator for coordinating and maintaining the record management database and software for parking citation and decals. Duties include maintaining all parking devices and hardware. 
  • Hires and supervises student workers in parking enforcement to include scheduling hours and completed payroll requirements.
  • Enforces the parking rules and regulations of the university, as well as, educating persons established university policies.  Patrols the parking zones of the campus in university vehicles, on foot, or on bicycle in order to enforce parking regulations and provide service or assistance to Administration, Faculty/Staff, Students, and Visitors.
  • Ensures proper documentation for citation charges and encumbrances from software to university records.
  • Maintain, install and remove boots/vehicle restraints when needed in order to identify repeat violators. Keeping accurate records on equipment location. 
  • Responsible for parking appeals process for faculty, staff, and students. Duties include participating in appeals court and ensuring proper notification and documentation for appeals.
  • Works closely with other university departments ensuring an accurate parking system.
  • Assists in issuance of parking decals and monitors the decal system for errors for auditing purposes. Person will be responsible for balancing receipts associated with the parking system.

  • Understands and carry out oral and written instructions given or written in English.
  • Prepares clear and complete police documents and reports as needed. 
  • Communicates effectively with the general public.
  • Directs traffic at university events using barricades, traffic cones and flashlight.
  • Assists regular university police officers upon request.
  • Operates a two-way base radio, answers telephones, and performs other dispatch tasks when needed.
  • Unlocks car doors and assists motorists upon request.
  • Performs escorts on campus upon request.
  • Secures campus buildings and unlocks campus buildings upon request.
  • Monitors fire and safety alarm systems and responds to alarms and service needs on such systems.
  • Inspects fire extinguishers and other safety-related equipment.
  • Participates in training activities including classroom, seminar, or field training.
  • Listens to employees, students, coworkers, visitors and speaks with them in all aspects of their situation to best handle their matter in the most logical and precise way.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least two (2) years of parking enforcement and/or safety/security experience
  • Valid Alabama driver’s license
  • No felony convictions or convictions for crimes of moral turpitude

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior coordinator or supervisory experience
