Job Summary:

Under general supervision, the Parking Enforcement Officer is a non-sworn officer responsible for enforcing university parking rules and regulations with additional safety and security responsibilities. Work is to include the protection of life and property through the enforcing of university regulations. Duties also include limited protective work in the guarding and securing of buildings, grounds, and facilities against loss or damage; monitoring and inspecting buildings and grounds for safety and security procedure, regulations, and enforcement. Employee also assists other university officers upon request. Work may involve the use of independent judgement in responding to emergencies. Work is frequently performed outdoors in all weather conditions. Employee may be assigned to day or evening shift and may be called to work odd hours for special events or activities on campus. Work is performed under general supervision and in accordance with established routine and guidelines checked by personal inspections, review of reports, and discussions with supervisor.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists University Police officers upon request.
  • Patrols campus parking lots and grounds on foot, in vehicles or on bicycle in order to provide service or assistance to employees, students or visitors. 
  • Enforces parking rules and regulations including but not limited to: responding to calls regarding parking violations and complaints, writes warnings and citations for illegally parked vehicles, unlocking of car doors and assisting motorist upon request, and educating students and visitors to campus in University Parking Rules and Regulations. 
  • Reports suspicious vehicles, objects or individuals to appropriate personnel.
  • Performs simple vehicle maintenance procedures such as checking oil and gas, and report mechanical problems to supervisor.
  • Enters and retrieves information pertaining to vehicle registration, identification, and status using parking enforcement hardware.
  • Observes and reports hazardous conditions such as missing traffic and parking signs, and traffic lights out.
  • Maintains assigned equipment and supplies such as hand held citation devices and printers, and two way radio.
  • Identifies lost, stolen, and counterfeit parking permits, and reports to officers for necessary enforcement action.
  • Assists Security in reporting of issues concerning buildings, grounds, and facilities for safety and security, as needed. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Alabama driver’s license at the time of appointment
  • Must not have been convicted of a felony or crime of moral turpitude

Preferred Qualification:

  • Public safety experience
