Department Information
The mission of the Counseling & Instructional Support department is to provide to students instruction related to knowledge, skills, and dispositions of the specific area of their major. A strong commitment to instructional technology and school improvement is recognized by all faculty members in the department.
Job Summary
The Instructional Leadership Program at Jacksonville State University is seeking part time adjunct faculty. In addition to full-time faculty, part-time faculty, with successful experience in educational leadership (e.g., principals, district office personnel, regional or state educational leaders), are critical to the program and the development of new school and district leaders.
Jacksonville State University’s (JSU) Instructional Leadership program includes Class A and Class AA certification programs. Our MSE program (Master’s in Education in Instructional Leadership, leads to a Class A certification) and our EDS program (Educational Specialist in Teacher Leader or Instructional Leadership, leads to a Class AA certification). The MSE and EDS programs are part of the Department of Counseling and Instructional Support within the College of Education and Professional Studies and are fully online. Students in the Instructional Leadership programs include K-12 classroom teachers interested in future roles in leadership, instructional coaches, other educators (e.g., technology specialist, lead teachers, program coordinators) and current school/district leaders. Through the MSE and EDS course work, students are seeking to improve their knowledge, skills, and competencies and also gain leadership certification.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Teach courses as assigned within the required discipline.
- Advise students within the graduate program.
- Develop and manage the class syllabus and ensure that the syllabus meets department and college standards.
- Plan and create engaging and interactive assignments.
- Assist and mentor students as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Terminal degree in Educational or Instructional Leadership
- Experience: Current or prior relevant K-12 experience as an assistant principal, principal, or district level administrator.
- Knowledge / Skills: Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to: Multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
- Licensing/Professional Certifications: Valid leadership certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Candidates who hold current relevant professional credentials.
- College or University teaching experience.
- Experience teaching and/or conducting action research either at PreK-12 or higher education levels
- Evidence of teaching excellence.
- Relevant K-12 experience.
- Experience working with culturally diverse populations.
- Online or hybrid teaching experience.
