Normal Work Schedule:

8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday, some evening and weekends required

Job Summary:

The Machinist Specialist will be responsible for producing precision parts, tools, and assemblies utilizing manual and CNC machines. This position requires a highly skilled individual who can work independently, read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings, and operate a variety of machine tools with precision.

Essential Functions:

  • Manages the daily operations of The Center for Manufacturing Support's manufacturing area
  • Conducts CNC and Manual machining of high tolerance parts with precision
  • Ensures the timely acquisition and upkeep of necessary tooling and materials for the CMS functions
  • Offers industry support and assistance when required
  • Conducts engaging tours and demonstrations of the manufacturing area, showcasing our capabilities and expertise.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in manual and CNC machining
  • Strong understanding of machining principles, including tool selection, speeds, and feeds
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints
  • Proficiency in the use of manual and CNC machines, including lathes, mills, and grinders
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments, including micrometers and gauges, to ensure accuracy and quality of finished products
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet project timelines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods of time

Preferred Qualifications:

To be successful in this position, the candidate should be proficient with industrial CNC machines with working knowledge of reading mechanical drawings and selecting proper tooling. Work with Manufacturing Engineers to create work holdings and fixtures which can reduce cycle times and improve part's finish and quality. Selection of proper tooling, speeds, feeds, depth/angle of cut, for optimum material removal on very complex, tight tolerance components. Candidates with the ability to program CMM equipment will also be of consideration.
