Job Summary:

The Benefits Assistant provides comprehensive support in the administration of the University’s employee benefits programs. Responsibilities include assisting with benefits enrollment, processing retirements and separations, and maintaining accurate, confidential records. This position serves as a primary point of contact for benefit-related inquiries, supports the preparation of internal and external reports, and contributes to the planning and execution of benefit-related events. The Benefits Assistant also assists with New Employee Orientation and ensures compliance with applicable University policies, as well as state and federal regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists with the generation and submission of departmental, regulatory, and RSA reports as needed; compiles personnel and benefits data and prepares reports using Microsoft Excel, Word, or PowerPoint.
  • Assists with Retirement processing, from the certification of service to the State to creating retiree plaques for presentation.  
  • Assists with the employee separation process: including scheduling and conducting exit interviews, initiating the separation workflow, terming benefits enrollments, and sending the necessary information to payroll in a timely manner. 
  • Assists with the coordination and set up of all Benefit related events, including the Benefits Fair, Retirement Seminar, and Service Awards.
  • Assists with Leaves Management: responding to inquiries, providing the appropriate paperwork and related information, following up with employees as required, and ensuring payroll submissions are provided timely for payroll deadlines.
  • Serves as a point of contact for benefits-related inquiries; informs Benefits Manager of any issues or concerns.
  • Assists with Benefits Administration: responding to inquiries; reviewing benefits to potential employees, new hires and current employees; and providing assistance with the enrollment processes.
  • Assists the Benefits Manager with the coordination and facilitation of New Employee Orientation.  Serves as a back-up in the absence of the Manager.
  • Responsible for processing tuition assistance requests, leave requests, and TIAA contribution changes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Four (4) years’ customer service experience
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience working in an office setting processing confidential information

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Human Resources experience
  • Benefits administration experience
