Writing consultants have the opportunity to hold interactive writing appointments with student writers from all disciplines on various writing projects such as essays, speeches, proposals, multimodal projects, etc. Consultants must understand the structure of topic sentences, thesis statements, paragraphs, and essays along with essay knowledge. Writing consultants should have a good understanding of grammar and mechanics as well. Knowledge in various rhetorical modes and types (e.g. literary reviews, analyses, blogs, websites, presentations, etc....) is beneficial. Consultants will develop key skills such as communication, cooperation, and leadership. Consultants will also have the opportunity to specialize in types of writing and citation styles. Students will complete and submit bi-weekly timesheets. |
University Student Assistant - Gamecock Guides (Summer 2025)

Interested in being a student tour guide? The Gamecock Student Tour Guides administer daily tours to potential students and families, along with university employees and partners! As a front facing student leader, the Gamecock Guides are expected to uphold university branding standards, both on and off the clock, while being able to confidently illustrate one’s university knowledge. Gamecock Guides may be required to work event days such as Admitted Student Days, Preview Days and undergo mandatory team training. When not administering a tour, the Gamecock Guides will be assisting with daily administrative tasks such as answering calls, emails, and providing excellent customer service practices.
This position will be under the direction of the Assistant Director of Campus Visits.

Front desk assistants must have strong communication skills and should be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Understanding and compliance of FERPA is mandatory. |

The University Department of Public Safety’s mission is to provide professional, proactive, and community-oriented service and protection, through prevention of crimes and other hazards, enforcement of the law, and safeguarding the constitutional guarantees of all within the campus community.
The University Student Assistant, while on duty, within their assigned campus residential areas, these uniformed safety ambassadors will be responsible for:
• Conduct basic foot and scooter patrols in areas of Housing.
• Build positive relationships within residential community life.
• Proactively address potential safety issues (DPS Operational Plan, 2023, Goal 2).
• Conduct lighting, door, fire extinguisher, automated external defibrillator checks, and monitor security cameras.
• Engage with members of the campus community to provide transportation directions, information about the Cocky Watch Program.
• Serve as a liaison from residents to police in addressing public safety concerns.
• Provide escorts at night, assist motorists, work events with large crowds, and conduct traffic control.
• Support first responders on calls for service.
• Additional duties as required by the department.
Positions may be filled based on individual applicants’ skills, qualifications, and departmental needs.
