University Student Assistant - Student Success Center Peer Tutor (Fall 2023 - Summer 2024) Jacksonville (Main Campus)
Provides tutoring to individuals and small groups in the Student Success Center (SSC) located in the Houston Cole Library, 2nd floor. The SSC tutoring program is CRLA (College Reading and Learning Association) certified. If hired, students are expected to complete 10 hours of training. This position assists students in improving academic achievement, supports students by reviewing and clarifying learning problems, and provides useful study skills to students that need supplemental help. Additionally, peer tutors provide subject-area knowledge and serve as a model for students in the techniques, strategies, attitudes, and beliefs that successful learners employ as they acquire new knowledge, solve problems, and complete academic tasks. Tutors may also provide drop-in tutoring assistance to students based on requests for academic assistance. Tutors must possess knowledge of subject area material beyond a basic level; have excellent communication skills; the ability to provide an active learning experience for students by explaining difficult concepts and providing examples for explorations. Other assistance might include reviewing class material and discussing the text and course content.

The duties of the Graduate Teaching Assistant, under the supervision of the faculty and/or staff, may include assisting faculty with various lab related tasks, performing classroom instruction, as well as other academic support duties, and departmental operational needs, and other associated and clerical duties as assigned. Teaching schedule will vary dependent upon lab schedule, lab prep, in class lab time, and post lab work. The position requires the graduate student to teach labs in Physical Geography I, Physical Geography II, Physical Geology, and Historical Geology.  The TA will teach three labs each semester and spend approximately twenty hours grading and prepping for future labs.  Individuals applying for this position must be well organized and be able to work independently.  The TA will interact with undergraduate students and provide office hours to assist them with their lab work.  Applications will be evaluated on relevant experience.

Performs a variety of office support and/or secretarial duties for a specified unit/department, such as composing a variety of standard documents and correspondence, relaying and resolving routine telephone and/or walk-up inquiries, scheduling calendar items and meetings, making travel arrangements, processing forms, performing data entry, and establishing and maintaining records. The WLJS-FM music director helps the program director plan, manage, and supervise the content and broadcasting of WLJS-FM, JSU’s student-run radio station, across all its platforms, which may include terrestrial broadcasting, digital streaming audio, podcasts, the web, social media and other forms of media. Specifically, the music director is responsible for reviewing and selecting music for WLJS’s regular programming, preparing song lists for rotation shifts and specialty music shows to ensure WLJS provides music programming that is of value to JSU students and the broader university community.
University Student Assistant - WLJS Patrons Director (Fall 2023 & Spring 2024) Jacksonville (Main Campus)
The WLJS-FM patrons director helps the program director develop and manage relationships with businesses, nonprofit groups, individuals and other entities to develop support for WLJS-FM, JSU’s student-run radio station, across all its platforms, which may include terrestrial broadcasting, digital streaming audio, podcasts, the web, social media and other forms of media. The patrons director maintains contact with existing patrons and initiates contact with potential new patrons to develop financial and other forms of support for WLJS’s ability to provide programming that is of value to JSU students and the broader university community.
