Job Summary:

The Assistant Dean of Students for Student Life is responsible for the development, implementation, and facilitation of campus events to promote involvement, responsible leadership, and inclusivity between groups on campus. The assistant dean is responsible for advising all branches of the SGA. This position is also responsible for campus programming and implementation of various events throughout the year. Additionally, the assistant dean will serve as the university contact for registered student organizations and direct the Miss Jacksonville State University Competition.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Represents the multiple perspectives in the planning and delivery of student programs, services, and meetings with student leaders.
  • Provides opportunities for educational, social, academic and leadership development of students through programming and planned activities.
  • Helps to enhance the University experience for all students by advertising and assisting student organizations in developing sustainable programming, resolutions, and ongoing initiatives such as study groups, homecoming partnerships, and community service projects.
  • Coordinates activities and programs in association with fraternity and sorority life, and other campus offices.
  • Plans all aspects of the SGA New Officers Installation Ceremony and Welcome Week activities.
  • Reviews and negotiates performance contracts for student activities.
  • Coordinates and/or attends a variety of local and national student-oriented conferences and workshops.
  • Serves on University committees.
  • Orchestrates multiple facets of Homecoming activities including a parade, online voting, pep rally, awards, communicating with community stakeholders, etc.
  • Provides support for and oversees all aspects of Student Life/SGA activities such as Student Senate, Student Activities Council, Allocation Committee meetings, and SGA Student Football Tailgates.
  • Serves as the advisor for the Student Government Association, Student Activities Council, and Student Organizations. Conducts leadership development for the SGA as well as other student organizations on campus.
  • Coordinates campus programming for a variety of campus events such as concerts, festivals, guest speakers, etc. Promotes, organizes, and coordinates campus special events and activities such as Family Day/Weekend events, Welcome Week Activities, and Student Tailgate for gamedays.
  • Serves as Director of Miss JSU Scholarship Pageant.
  • Coordinates marketing for all student activities and events on campus.
  • Reports notes to the Dean of Students to be included in Board of Trustee notes.
  • Maintains and regularly publishes an up-to-date calendar of activities and events that is made readily available to all JSU students.
  • Assist in the planning of the District VI Student Government Conferences
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • at least two (2) years of related work experience with Student Life, SGA, or related area
  • experience working with individuals from culturally diverse backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree preferred
  • experience in a higher education setting

General Maintenance

The General Maintenance employee performs skilled work in repairing, renovating, and maintaining University buildings, primarily residence halls and University-owned apartments.  General Maintenance duties include electrical, plumbing, and carpentry work. This could be a supervisory position with one or more student workers.
