Job Summary:
The Supervisor, Custodial Services plans, organizes, leads, controls and manages the custodial maintenance function on campus in an expedient and efficient manner. Has direct or indirect responsibility for housekeeping supervisors, housekeepers, custodial maintenance, pest control, and others as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages and controls the cleaning of classrooms, restrooms, offices, windows, stairwells, entrances, sidewalks, corridors, carpets and flooring of campus buildings both on a routine and special event basis.
- Provides supervision, training, and scheduling of custodial staff to ensure that the needs of the University are fulfilled.
- Promotes and enforces safe work practices. Conducts training sessions on proper use of chemicals and cleaning products, and on Material Safety Data Sheets.
- Works with supervisors to hire, train, monitor and evaluate staff; provides performance feedback and counseling.
- Makes periodic evaluations of employees to determine effectiveness in accordance with University policy and procedures. Enforces disciplinary procedures according to University policy.
- Constantly inspects offices, classrooms, residence halls, and hallways for cleanliness, needed repairs, and any unsafe conditions; meets established timelines and schedules or programs needed tasks.
- Routinely reviews schedules, concerns, and issues with supervisors; provide assistance when needed.
- Monitors issues and concerns, and maintains consistency with procedures, cleaning practices, training, and counseling. Constantly updates cleaning procedures and supplies to maintain ever changing industry standards.
- Coordinates with the procurement department to acquire materials and services; monitors purchases within budgetary constraints, and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies.
- Reviews and monitors departmental budget to ensure compliance with purchasing regulations and to ensure orderly acquisition of supplies and services, and ensures good housekeeping practices.
- Coordinates and manages usage of housekeeping supplies in accordance with EPA and PSHA requirements.
- Directs and instructs housekeeping staff proper methods of cleaning and equipment use.
- Discusses with building manager/representative special needs and remedy problems.
- Maintains accurate and timely documentation and records on cleaning tasks, attendance, employee performance, etc.
- Supervises pest control function to ensure effectiveness and compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Drives University vehicles.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Five years housekeeping experience required including three years of supervisory experience required.
- High school diploma.
- Valid Alabama Driver’s License.
