$32,307.04 - $33,529.60 commensurate with experience

Job Summary:

The HVAC Mechanic II works at the journeyman level to perform service and maintenance on various refrigeration and air conditioning installations and equipment.  Tasks are completed according to established trade practices under the direction of a senior level HVAC mechanic or the HVAC supervisor, and is reviewed for compliance with instructions and adequate completion.  The HVAC Mechanic II works rotating shifts; special situations or emergencies may necessitate reporting on a scheduled off-day.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Installs and maintains air conditioning units and adjusts temperature controls in window units, reciprocating units, centrifugal units, ice machines, freezers, and refrigerators.
  • Maintains and repairs heating units such as heat pumps, gas furnaces, steam converters, gas boilers, and gas water heaters.
  • Lubricates fan compressor motors; adjusts automatic valves and controls, condenser and evaporator; replaces belts, pulleys, fly wheels and fuses; checks for refrigerant leaks and replaces refrigerant as needed.
  • Installs and maintains pumps used to transfer fluid to heating or cooling such as water or Freon.
  • Removes, disassembles, repairs, rebuilds, and installs motors or pumps used in heating or cooling units.
  • Performs basic and general maintenance and repair such as pipefitting, welding, and electrical restoration.
  • Drives university trucks and vans.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Possesses manual dexterity to manipulate small hand tools; visual acuity sufficient to read gauges and thermometers and inspect small parts; hearing sufficient to distinguish proper functioning of units and to diagnose problems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Any combination of training and experience equivalent to: Graduation from high school or completion of the GED and completion of a vocational school program in refrigeration and extensive experience in refrigeration and heating maintenance and repair.
  • Valid Alabama driver’s license
  • Must successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR)
  • Possession, at the time of hire, of a universal refrigerant transition and recovery certification issued by EPA

Federal Work Study - English Department (Fall 2026 - Spring 2027)

The duties of the Federal Work Study Student Aid are to obtain work experience on campus in offices, labs, gym, the library, and other areas. Duties may include assisting staff and faculty with preparation for research, classroom instruction, departmental operational needs, or performing administrative and other support duties as required. Positions may be filled based on individual applicants’ skills, qualification, and departmental needs. **Must be eligible for Federal Work Study. Auxiliary Teacher, 1 Year Olds

The auxiliary teacher will assist with implementing a model Pre-K program for a group of children and provide support to the lead teacher with the following: planning and implementing appropriate activities for children, working with faculty and administration, working with families of young children, and modeling evidence-based practices in the classroom for early educator observers, graduate, and undergraduate students. This position is a 9-month, bi-weekly payroll position working 187 days per year.
