Job Summary:

The Materials Handler II in Capital Planning and Facilities performs a variety of tasks of a semi-skilled nature that involve both heavy and light physical labor. Acting independently or as part of a group, the Materials Handler II moves furniture, documents, fixtures, computers, boxes, and other objects from one location to another. Materials Handlers II may be the lead worker or supervisor over Materials Handlers I or student employees. Tasks will be reviewed while in progress and upon completion for compliance to instructions and policy.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reads work orders and letters attached to work orders in order to receive instructions for moving requests and other tasks.
  • Moves furniture, boxes, fixtures, and equipment using carts, dollies and pallet jacks.
  • Sets up tables and chairs for meetings or events on campus.
  • Drives university vehicle on and off campus to transport and deliver boxes, furniture, tables, chairs, and other objects. Uses banding machine to secure boxes being moved.
  • Sets up and climbs scaffolding in order to pressure clean exterior of buildings; cleans pavement and concrete using water pressure cleaning device.
  • Cleans pavement and concrete on exterior of buildings using water pressure cleaning device.
  • Places and removes directional signs for public events held on campus.
  • Paints curbs using paintbrushes and rollers.
  • Moves from building to building on campus.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Any combination of training and experience equivalent to: performing manual tasks, functioning as a supervisor or lead workers, and driving a truck.
  • Ability to perform duties of this classification.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
