Clinical Director & Instructor, Speech-Language Pathology

Jacksonville State University seeks a dynamic and experienced Speech-Language Pathologist for a 12-month, instructor position as Clinical Director. This faculty appointment requires a leader who will design, implement, and oversee all clinical education components of the speech language pathology programs, in addition to holding a full faculty role with teaching, and service responsibilities, ensuring students receive high-quality clinical training that meets Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) standards. The Clinical Director works in close partnership with the Program Director to build a program grounded in clinical excellence, ethical practice, and strong community partnerships.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Education Leadership

  • Design, implement, and continuously evaluate the clinical education curriculum in accordance with CAA standards and ASHA certification requirements
  • Identify, establish, and maintain external practicum and clinical placement sites throughout the region
  • Negotiate and manage affiliation agreements and contracts with clinical partner sites
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and accreditation regulations governing clinical practice and supervision (e.g., HIPAA, FERPA, ASHA Standards)
  • Serve as a liaison between the university and clinical education partners, including hospitals, schools, private practices, and rehabilitation facilities

Clinical Supervision and Student Development

  • Provide direct clinical supervision to students in on-campus and/or off-campus clinical settings
  • Recruit, train, and evaluate off-site clinical supervisors and preceptors
  • Monitor student clinical competency development and progress toward ASHA certification standards
  • Track and document student clinical hours, ensuring compliance with CAA and ASHA requirements
  • Address student remediation needs related to clinical performance in coordination with program faculty
  • Maintain clinical education records and documentation systems for accreditation reporting

Program Development and Administration

  • Collaborate with the Program Director on strategic planning, curriculum integration, and accreditation self-study preparation
  • Establish policies and procedures for clinical practicum, including student clinical handbooks and site agreements
  • Participate in program assessment and continuous improvement processes related to clinical outcomes
  • Prepare clinical education reports required for CAA accreditation and other regulatory bodies

Faculty Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in speech-language pathology, including clinical methods and practicum courses 
  • Participate in professional service 
  • Maintain professional development and continuing education requirements, including clinical certification renewal

Required Qualifications

Education and Licensure

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from a CAA-accredited program
  • Current state licensure in Speech-Language Pathology (Alabama licensure required within one year of appointment)
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from

ASHA

  • Eligibility to hold a Clinical Supervisor designation in accordance with ASHA standards
  • At least 3 years of experience as a Clinical Director, Clinical Coordinator, or Director of Clinical Education in a CSD program

Experience

  • Demonstrated experience supervising graduate clinicians in clinical or practicum settings
  • Experience with clinical program administration, site development, or clinical education coordination
  • Familiarity with CAA accreditation standards related to clinical education

Professional Competencies

  • Comprehensive knowledge of CAA accreditation standards and ASHA certification requirements as they pertain to clinical education
  • Strong understanding of evidence-based clinical practice across the lifespan and diverse disorder areas
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and relationship-building skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Proficiency in clinical documentation systems and data management for accreditation purposes
  • Ability to build and sustain community and clinical partnerships

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with CAA accreditation site visits and self-study processes related to clinical education
  • Experience launching or restructuring a clinical education program
  • Knowledge of telepractice and technology-based service delivery models
  • Active professional involvement in ASHA or other relevant professional organizations
  • Experience developing interprofessional clinical education opportunities

This 12-month faculty position has an anticipated start date of August 1, 2027.
