Job Summary
The Department of Music at Jacksonville State University (Jax State) invites applications for an adjunct music industry instructor for the spring 2026 semester. The successful applicant will teach courses such as music industry history, contemporary issues and trends in the music industry, marketing/entrepreneurship, and arts management. Our department offers undergraduate programs of study in Music Education, Music Industry, Music Performance, and General Music. In addition, the department offers graduate programs in General Music and Music Education. A minimum of 18 graduate hours in the discipline is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- The successful candidate should have knowledge of the structure of the music industry, knowledge of record labels and music licensing agencies, digital content creation and distribution, and the fundamentals of arts management which includes US copyright law.
- Necessary skills for a music industry instructor include the ability to analyze industry data and trends, operate production software, interpret contract language and design agreements, coordinate music events and effectively demonstrate how to manage budgets and finances.
- Teach undergraduate students in the following courses: The History of the Music Industry, Music Licensing & Intellectual Property, Contemporary Issues in the Music Industry, and Arts Management and Concert Production.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of 18 credit hours in the discipline or related field
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in discipline and industry experience in management, production, publishing or marketing
