Job Summary:

The Instructional Designer works with faculty and other associates to design, develop, evaluate, and revise instruction and instructional materials predominately for online and hybrid classes.

Essential Functions: 

  •   Consults with faculty and staff on design, development, and evaluation of instructional programs, materials, methods, student support systems, and teaching and assessment techniques, and on the construction of evaluation programs and studies to promote effective teaching and learning through formative and summative evaluation procedures, data sources, and instruments.
  •   Collaborates with faculty on online content generation and growth of media-rich instruction.
  •   Edits faculty writing and, in some cases, drafts instructional content based on a variety of inputs.
  •   Leads or co-leads workshops designed to inform faculty about online learning, instructional design, technology integration, and related topics.
  •   Manages and tracks the progress of multiple instructional design projects, adheres to production schedules, and keeps projects within budget, resources, and time parameters.
  •   Creates design standards, templates, and processes.
  •   Produces faculty-development activities including training and innovations updates, selection and construction of materials, and instructional uses of new technologies.
  •   Conducts applied research and evaluation, interprets data, and recommends procedures and solutions to integrate technology for effective learning and instruction.
  •   Researches, evaluates, and develops applications of new technologies, materials, and techniques for their applicability to educational uses.
  •   Advances the University’s online education systems by working cooperatively and collaboratively within the department and with other University units.
  •   Establishes and/or works with learning management system user groups in academic departments and facilitates special events geared towards highlighting the use of current educational technology.
  •   With supervisory oversight, develops and maintains sections of the Office’s website that are related to instructional design and delivery.
  •   Actively participates in higher education, distance education, and educational technology professional groups, and attends professional development opportunities.
  •   Makes and maintains training materials (both print and web) for faculty and students on the current learning management system(s), including, but not limited to, Canvas.
  •   Performs other duties as assigned by leadership.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in instructional design, educational technology, instructional technology, or closely related field,
  • a combination of a master's degree in another field plus one of the following: (1) instructional design certification or (2) four years of full-time equivalent experience in instructional design, and
  • two (2) years full-time equivalent experience designing and developing effective distance learning, distributed learning, and/or online courses or programs using asynchronous formats such as Blackboard or Canvas

Preferred Qualifications:

Significant experience with Canvas, CIDI Design Tools, Kaltura, Turnitin Feedback Studio, Microsoft Teams, and other Microsoft Office 365 tools. Experience with Articulate Storyline and Adobe Creative Suite.
