Normal Work Schedule:

8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.     Monday – Friday  (some evenings and weekends may be required)

Job Summary:

The Manufacturing Engineer will operate the 3D additive manufacturing facility and required support equipment.  The Manufacturing Engineer will serve to support and supervise students from the Department of Applied Engineering in the completion of course-related lab assignments as well as independent research work. This individual will receive training as determined by his or her professional development plan. As a member of the CMS team, this individual will share responsibility for soliciting,  planning, coordinating, organizing, and completing engineering projects and tests with external companies for the Center for Manufacturing Support (CMS). The Manufacturing Engineer is expected to pursue external contracts for the CMS, and perform internal engineering projects for the CMS and the University. Employees in this classification will work with a high level of independence, will report to, and be evaluated by the Director of the Center for Manufacturing Support.

Essential Functions: 

  • Researches and pursues opportunities for external contracts with industry.
  • Oversees maintenance and upkeep of select departmental equipment.
  • Trains and supervises undergraduate students as assigned by the Director of the CMS.
  • Runs the day to day operations of the 3D additive manufacturing lab.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Orders and maintains inventory to support the Center for Manufacturing Support and academic lab needs.
  • Provides training and/or assistance to local industry as needed and approved by the Director of the CMS.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, applied engineering, or technology directly related to electronics, manufacturing, automation, or mechanical design
  • At least three (3) years of equivalent experience in engineering related activities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, applied engineering, or technology directly related to electronics, manufacturing, automation, or mechanical design
  • Demonstrated experience in applied manufacturing research
