Job Summary:

The Instructor, Clinical Education Coordinator (CEC) for the Master's in Athletic Training program responsible for the clinical education operations, didactic and clinical instruction, and ensuring clinical requirements are met by the athletic training students.  The CEC will assist the MAT Director in the comprehensive implementation, operation, and function of the MAT program as needed for seeking and meeting accreditation purposes.

Essential Functions

  • Organizes the clinical learning experience for assigned students that support achievement of course and program objectives.
  • Provides timely performance feedback to students according to program guidelines and maintain documentation.
  • Responsible for overseeing preceptor training, development, and evaluation as well as clinical site assessment.
  • Provides supervision to students, plans and facilitates students’ laboratory experiences, and conducts clinical competency testing according to program policies.
  • Conducts visits to every clinical site and perform periodic evaluation of clinical sites and preceptors.
  • In conjunction with program director, develops a clinical assignment schedule for each student.
  • Assists the Program Director and division dean or department head in identifying and recruiting qualified clinical sites and preceptors.
  • Provides documentation to clinical agencies, reviews clinical contracts for special stipulations, initiates new clinical contracts, and coordinates placement of MAT students in area hospitals, clinics, schools, and other identified locations.
  • Maintains frequent communication with MAT students and clinical agency representatives, as well as keep faculty apprised of student eligibility for clinical placement.
  • Coordinates standardized testing for students.
  • Responsible for teaching didactic and laboratory classes within the program.
  • Coordinates, reports, provides documentation of health appraisals, immunizations, CPR certification, health insurance, government security clearances, background and drug screens for students, faculty, adjunct faculty, and clinical associates (i.e., preceptors).
  • Ensures clinical requirements are met by MAT students (health appraisals,
  • Immunizations, health insurance, CPR certification, background and drug screens, government security clearances, and license verification).
  • Participates in the planning and revision of MAT program curriculum.
  • Collaborates with faculty to organize and provide classroom, laboratory and clinical learning experiences to support program and course objectives.
  • Coordinates all activities of assigned course(s) to include: development of course syllabi/outlines, developing evaluation instruments, textbook recommendation, organizing clinical experiences, reporting grades to the Registrar and implementing course evaluation and revision according to the program evaluation master plan.
  • Participates in orientation and information meetings for faculty, staff and students related to clinical requirements and placement for practicums/immersive experiences.
  • Maintains competency in Athletic Training and instructional methods by participation in professional development activities.
  • Communicates with Program Director on issues related to students, clinical facilities, and /or faculty in assigned courses.
  • Utilizes instructional technology as appropriate in the teaching and learning process.
  • Serves on committees, both at the college and university levels.  
  • Maintains inventory of supplies for student laboratory experiences.
  • Responsible for the set up and break down of learning skills stations in the lab.
  • Uses software, creates databases, spreadsheets, and related documents to collect, record and track information that will be used in reports to the state or federal government, university officials, and accrediting bodies.
  • Demonstrates and maintains a high level of competence and expertise in the teaching field or subject area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the MAT Program Director and/or Department Chair.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training or related field, from an institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE)
  • In good standing with the National Athletic Trainer’s Association (NATA), the Board of Certification (BOC)
  • Eligible for Alabama professional licensure
  • Minimum of four (4) years full-time clinical athletic training experience have a
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience teaching in an accredited AT program either as an appointed faculty member or as a clinical preceptor

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree

The ideal candidate should have prior experience with:

  • Clinical supervisory duties in a Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) approved AT Program 
  • Successful administrative role within an athletic training-related enterprise
  • Teaching in higher education within a CAATE approved AT Program at the Master’s level

Additionally, candidates must show:

  • Active participation in professional organizations
  • Proficient computer and online database skills
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities
  • Talent to positively mentor MAT students
