Job Summary:

 

The Clinical Instructor in the Department of Nursing, provides educational services to traditional and non-traditional students during the day or evening; teaching undergraduate level courses in Nursing; and may be required to teach courses within his/her concentration area on campus, off-campus, online courses and possible videoconferencing depending on need of location.

Essential Functions:

 

  • Provides leadership in establishing and achieving the School’s vision, mission, goals, and student learning outcomes.
  •  Displays clinical expertise and knowledge in the designated content area. 
  •  Coordinates clinical activities as directed and promotes an effective clinical learning environment. 
  •  Supervises care provided by a group of students while in the clinical environment. 
  •  Assists in providing clinical resources to enhance learning environment. 
  •  Assists students in provision of patient care to individuals in a variety of settings.
  •  Responsible for the safety of students and patients during the delivery of patient care in the clinical environment. 
  •  Serves as advisor and mentor for students.
  •  Develops and implements a program of instruction that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students and is consistent with the university, SACS accreditation, and state study and curriculum guides.
  •  Plans and employs a variety of appropriate instructional/learning strategies and activities which are compatible with the physical facility but serves the needs and capabilities of the students. 
  •  Assesses student’s abilities as related to desired educational goals and objectives, in order to maximize student achievement.
  •  Manages and utilizes the behaviors of learners in the online classroom environment and utilize state-of-the-art technologies to enhance content delivery.
  •  Communicates clearly and frequently to students (either in writing or verbally) in regards to instructional expectations, student progress or lack of progress.
  •  Possesses the ability to drive to clinical sites and between various buildings on campus, including the high-fidelity simulation lab.
  •  Actively participates in and works with university personnel in planning effective instructional goals, objectives, methods and curriculum. 
  •  Exhibits a commitment and ability to conduct scholarly activities and engage in professional, university, and community service. 
  •  Participates in professional growth and development activities including staff meetings, and in-service and staff development activities as required or assigned.
  •  Assists in the documentation of student progress by efficiently maintaining and submitting appropriate records and reports. 
  •  Registers student attendance in accordance with JSU policy.
  •  Participates and belongs to educational/professional associations (within concentration) and participates in their activities.
  •  Agrees to participate in extra-curricular activities as requested by the head of the department or Dean of the school, including service on committees.
  •  Fulfill faculty responsibilities as stated by institutional and departmental policy and by administration.
  •  Performs other duties as assigned by the department head.

 

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Non-tenured position requiring possession of a master’s degree from a graduate institution of recognized standing or equivalent experience and professional recognition
  • Either demonstrated or presumptive potential to obtain an appropriate earned doctoral degree or the terminal professional degree recognized by the School of Health Professions and Wellness and the University
  • Either demonstrated or presumptive potential for effective teaching and for satisfying the duties and responsibilities of a faculty member
  • Credit for the minimum number of hours of graduate work required by the accrediting agency in the area of teaching responsibility
  • Current, unencumbered Alabama RN license
  • valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience preferred.
