Job Summary:

The Coordinator, Academic Advisement, Certification, and Support, will assist the Director  and faculty in managing the academic advisement process for students pursuing majors within the school and will assist the Director, faculty, and staff in connecting students to the appropriate University services, as needed, to integrate advisement and academic support.  The Coordinator will provide support, training, and assessment of advisement and use of support services, as directed, working with all stakeholders to maximize the quality of advisement and support offered to students.

Essential Functions:

  • Keeps up-to-date on all program requirements of the majors offered by the School.  Assists with curriculum changes; updates to the catalog, Banner, CAPP (building, reviewing, revising content, and providing training and assistance to faculty), and STARS system; and other required reporting. 
  •  Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the University’s Academic Regulations. Assists advisors and students with interpretation of transcripts of transfer students.
  •  Provides training to students, staff, faculty, as directed.
  •  Provides assistance to students, through advising and evaluation of their progress toward degree completion and with meeting program requirements of majors within the School and assists with the tracking database of these students. 
  •  Serves as back-up Advisor for other majors, as needed; stays knowledgeable of all relevant School activities.  
  •  Assists students from the ROTC program with academic plans (104R sheets).
  •  Assists with and participates in student events and activities facilitated by the School and University that promote student success, e.g.: Orientation and Graduation, Majors Fair, and Career Fair, as needed.
  •  Participates in the University’s Academic Advisement Council. Essential Edit Remove
  •  Collects and analyzes appropriate data; assesses the effectiveness of advisement practices.
  •  Maintains ongoing communication via multiple communication portals (telephone, email, text, social media, etc.) with students, faculty, staff, and administration.
  •  Participates in professional growth and development through activities, including staff meetings and staff development activities as assigned.
  •  Collaborates with various departments across campus to ensure student success.
  •  Certifies graduation for the entire School of Health Professions and Wellness and attends graduation ceremonies as required. 
  •  Processes admissions for the RT Bridge Program and checks licensure on RT Bridge Students.
  •  Helps with STEP and Graduate Nursing Admissions and licensure verification when necessary.
  •  Calculates GPA’s of nursing students to help determine eligibility for Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society.
  •  Serves on committees, both at the university and School of Health Professions and Wellness level.
  •  Compiles data and numbers to incorporate into various reports.
  •  May supervise clerical staff and student workers.
  •  Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Student Personnel, or Psychology, or closely related field,
  • minimum of two (2) years’ related experience in the university environment, including extensive student contact, and
  • experience in higher education administration working with students
