Job Summary:
The Graduate Admissions Specialist is responsible for the processing of graduate applications in the School of Arts & Humanities minus the Department of Music, School of Business & Industry, School of Health Professions & Wellness minus the Department of Kinesiology, School of Human Services & Social Sciences, and School of Science, verification of students’ academic history, program entry dates, and ensuring accurate recording of student information in the Banner System. This position serves as the initial point of contact for staff, faculty, students, and other constituencies; responds to routine inquiries; and disseminates information about the services offered by Graduate Studies. The Graduate Admissions Specialist attends graduate student recruiting fairs, tabling opportunities, and other recruiting/public relations events as needed, representing JSU Graduate Studies.

Essential Functions:
- Responds to routine inquiries and disseminates information about the services offered by Graduate Studies.
- Provides support to the office of Graduate Studies by serving as the initial point of contact for staff, faculty, students and other constituencies.
- Assists in the compilation and coordination of data for reports.
- Maintains communication (via email and telephone) with applicants concerning required documentation for the application process.
- Scans documents for each student into the student’s Web Xtender file.
- Provides support in preparing and distributing appropriate letters to students (e.g. Acknowledgement, Acceptance, Denial, Plans to Pursue, Enrolled, Good Standing, Background Check Letter, TC Expiring and Transient).
- Verifies that all background screening processes are complete and results are acceptable for admission.
- Processes Change of Major request forms
- Assists in communicating with and forwarding completed student files to appropriate faculty/college, and/or State agency.
- Maintains filing systems according to departmental protocol; files may either be hard copy or computer-based; verifies the accuracy of processed data.
- Maintains inventory of office supplies and materials.
- Accesses Georgia Certification system and print Georgia student’s teaching certificates as required.
- Attends graduate student recruiting fairs, tabling opportunities, and other recruiting/public relations events as needed, representing JSU Graduate Studies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Processes non-education graduate students’ applications and verifies students’ information is recorded in each student’s Banner record.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
- high school diploma or equivalent
- at least three (3) years full time equivalent experience in clerical or administrative support, and some experience involving electronic record keeping
- valid drivers license
