Job Summary:

The Learning Systems Application Administrator serves as primary system administrator of the current LMS, Canvas, and assists with system administration of other enterprise software solutions provided by Online@JSU.  This individual takes a leadership role in the learning systems design and customization process, and is responsible for maintenance, major modifications, and development of applications based on user requirements and needs identified by instructional design staff and the Director of Online@JSU. The Learning Systems Application Administrator assists with support and will be working closely with staff, administrators, and faculty to build custom solutions and integrations. Programming and scripting skills will be leveraged to originate ideas for advancement of functionality of various licensed or internally developed applications.

Essential Functions:

  • Complies with requests for programming services by formulating, in conjunction with other university and external personnel, a general plan for the request.
  •  Writes efficient, high-performance, secure, custom programming for a variety of purposes, primarily associated with, but not limited to, computer-based learning systems and related technologies such as Canvas, Banner, Kaltura, and others.
  •  Writes SQL queries against relational databases for extraction, reporting and other manipulation.
  •  Writes cURL scripts for processing against API’s.
  •  Maintains custom programming to adapt to upgrades and other changes occurring with various other technologies and systems associated with the custom programming.
  •  Provides courteous and prompt assistance when working with staff, faculty, students, external service providers, and others. 
  •  Maintains competency through self-directed professional reading, development of personal contacts with colleagues, attending professional development opportunities, and attending trainings required by university leadership.
  •  Adheres to university and departmental standards and guidelines.
  •  Communicates with others in person, over the telephone, by email, by web conferencing, and other means.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or related field
  • Familiarity with administrative responsibilities and various aspects of learning management systems and related applications, such as Canvas, Kaltura, and others
  • A reasonable amount of work experience writing programming associated with relational databases, API’s, LTI’s, and educational technologies such as Canvas.
