The University Student Assistant Campus Parking Enforcement Officer is responsible for the enforcement of University Parking Rules and Regulations. Duties may include the issuing of parking citations to vehicles in violation of University Parking Rules and Regulations, unlocking of car doors and assist motorist upon request, and educating student and visitors to campus of the University Parking Rules and Regulations. Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions, may be assigned to day or evening shifts, serves as a liaison between the public and University departments, assist University Police Officers upon request, and maintains parking enforcement hardware and two-way radio. University Student Assistant - WLJS Program Director (Summer 2024 - Spring 2025) Jacksonville (Main Campus)
The WLJS-FM Program director plans, manages, and supervises the content and broadcasting of WLJS-FM, JSU’s student-run radio station, across all its platforms, which may include terrestrial broadcasting, digital streaming audio, podcasts, the web, social media, and other forms of media. Specifically, the program director is responsible for developing informational and entertainment programming that relies on speech and conversation to ensure WLJS provides programs that are of value to JSU students and the broader university community. As a member of the WLJS student staff, the program director works closely with the other student staff members and with the director of student media. The program director must be or become familiar with the Society of Professional Journalists’ Code of Ethics and use the code as a guide. The program director also must be or become familiar with FCC requirements pertaining to WLJS’s broadcast license and help ensure compliance with those requirements from the student staff. Graduate Teaching Assistant - Biology Department (Fall 2024 - Spring 2025) Jacksonville (Main Campus)
A Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) assists faculty by teaching lower-level courses or labs; developing teaching materials; and preparing and grading examinations, papers, or other student work. The GTAs must be assigned to and responsible for teaching a credit bearing course and will be under the supervision of a faculty member experienced in the teaching field. A GTA’s work with students will be closely supervised and must provide opportunities to gain teaching skills and a better grasp of the academic discipline. The supervising faculty member is responsible for overseeing the assignment of all grades to students in the courses. Stipend: $4,000 paid in 4 monthly installments over the course of a fall or spring semester or paid in 3 monthly installments over the course of a summer semester. Max of 20 hours per week for total of 16 weeks on a monthly pay cycle. In addition to a stipend, graduate assistantships carry a scholarship of 6-9 semester hours of graduate tuition and the general university fee. The Student Media Business Manager supports the operation of Jax State’s student media outlets – The Chanticleer and WLJS 91.9 FM – by developing financial support appropriate for each outlet. Specifically, the business manager helps the WLJS program director develop and manage relationships with businesses, nonprofit groups, individuals, and other entities to develop support for WLJS 91.9 FM, JSU’s student-run radio station, across all its platforms, which may include terrestrial broadcasting, digital streaming audio, podcasts, the web, social media and other forms of media. The business manager maintains contact with existing patrons and advertisers and initiates contact with potential new patrons and advertisers to develop financial and other forms of support for WLJS and The Chanticleer in their mission to serve JSU students and the broader university community. The business manager also manages the sale and publication of advertising for The Chanticleer across all its platforms, which may include the web, social media, print and other forms of media. As a member of the student media staff, the business manager works closely with the other student staff members and with the director of student media. The business manager also must be or become familiar with FCC requirements pertaining to WLJS’s broadcast license and help ensure compliance with those requirements from the student staff and in the station’s agreements with patrons. The business manager also must be or become familiar with ethical and legal issues around the publication of advertising in student media. The music director must be or become familiar with music rights licensing requirements and help ensure the station’s compliance with those requirements. The University Student Assistant/Chanticleer section editors help the editor-in-chief plan, manage, and supervise the coverage and publication of The Chanticleer, JSU’s student-run news organization, across all its platforms, which may include the web, social media, print and other forms of media. The section editors work with the editor-in-chief to ensure The Chanticleer provides timely, editorially independent coverage of events and issues that are important to JSU students and the broader university community. Students in this position are assigned to manage coverage of general news, feature stories and sports under the supervision of the editor-in-chief and with the assistance and advice of the director of student media, with whom the editorial staff must work closely on all matters relating to content and publication.
