Position Summary:
The Peer Learning Coach (PLC) performs duties and responsibilities under the general direction of the Tutor Coordinator in the Academic Support and Success Center. The Peer Learning Coach is a trained student leader who provides personalized individual and group coaching to help fellow students develop essential academic skills. This position will work independently and in team settings to promote academic success, student engagement, personal development, and meaningful connections with Jax State Students, Faculty, Staff, and resources.
- Provide individual and group coaching with undergraduate students who seek to improve their academic journey.
- Help students develop and improve skills such as time management, study strategies, organization, and goal setting, etc.
- Participate in initial and ongoing training sessions.
- Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and academic responsibility.
- Help students connect with campus resources.
- Engage in proactive outreach and provide ongoing case management.
- Maintain accurate and confidential coaching records and submit timely session reports.
- Represent and support logistics of the Academic Support and Success Center for initiatives including, but not limited to, Student Learning Orientations, Welcome Week, classroom visits, etc.
Positions may be filled based on individual applicants’ skills, qualifications, and departmental needs.
Adheres to all department and University policies and procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Attend mandatory student staff training and required workshops.
- Attend all coaching sessions and notify the Tutor Coordinator if a session must be cancelled.
- Be punctual, begin all sessions promptly, use the time for academic tasks, and focus on the student’s needs.
- Complete appointment reports reflective of the content and objectives accomplished during each session.
- Complete biweekly electronic timesheets.
- Maintain absolute confidentiality regarding academic progress and/or personal information concerning students.
- Additional duties as required by the department.

Minimum Qualifications:
- A minimum of 3.0 college GPA or higher required; must maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher throughout employment.
- Must have completed at least one semester of full-time attendance at Jax State.
- Must be available during the evening hours and during times that do not conflict with class schedule.
- Applicants must be enrolled as a Jax State student taking at least three (3) hours per fall or spring semester. (Requirements for international students below. *)
- Selected applicants must provide evidence of student enrollment and GPA (unofficial transcript or printout of enrollment/GPA from MyJaxState.
