Assistant Professor of Music/Assistant Director of Bands
The Department of Music in Jacksonville State University’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Sciences invites applications for an Assistant Professor position who will also serve as the Assistant Director of Bands.
The David L Walters Department of Music at Jacksonville State University seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor of Music/Assistant Director of Bands. The successful candidate will support the acclaimed Marching Southerners by recruiting prospective music majors and other students to the university through activities such as high school visits, clinics, and workshops. This role also involves conducting the Symphonic Band, one of three concert bands offered in the department, and the Pep Band (Hardcorps). In addition, the successful candidate will teach conducting at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The ability to form strong community ties and maintain a strong relationship with the athletic department would also be essential. The David L Walters Department of Music offers undergraduate programs of study in Music Education, Music Industry, Music Performance, and General Music. In addition, the department offers graduate programs in General Music and Music Education.
Position Requirements
Candidates must hold a master’s degree in music and have experience directing marching and athletic bands. The candidates must also possess demonstrated success in teaching at the college or public-school level along with a demonstrated ability to connect with state and area band directors and students.
Preference may be given to candidates with a DMA or ABD in wind conducting or a related field.
