Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Director, the Coordinator of LRCC Facilities and Grounds coordinates and supports day-to-day facilities and grounds operations at the Little River Canyon Center (LRCC). This position assists with maintenance, custodial care, minor construction, event logistics, and grounds upkeep, and serves as the primary on-site point of contact for facilities-related safety and emergency response.
The Coordinator ensures that buildings, grounds, and systems are safe, functional, well-maintained, and organized in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and University policies, in support of the Center’s educational mission and public programming.
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required in support of events, programs, and emergency response.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Facilities & Grounds Operations
- Supports and assists custodial, janitorial, and grounds maintenance activities for campus buildings and outdoor spaces.
- Performs routine and as-needed maintenance and minor repairs to buildings, equipment, and systems including HVAC, alarms, wireless systems, AV equipment, and flooring.
- Assists with housekeeping coverage as needed during evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.
- Performs outdoor maintenance including sidewalks, entryways, windows, landscaping, trails, signage, and parking areas.
- Operates maintenance and grounds equipment such as needed.
- Maintains tools, vehicles, equipment, storage areas, and workspaces in a safe and serviceable condition.
- Safety, Security & Compliance
- Promotes and enforces safe work practices for all facilities and grounds operations.
- Serves as the primary on-site liaison with local police, fire departments, and JSU Safety officials.
- Coordinates safety planning and logistics for large events, including lighting, signage, traffic control, and emergency access.
- Monitors and responds to building alarms, system failures, and after-hours emergencies.
- Assists with fire code compliance, safety inspections, and alarm system testing.
- Projects, Events & Coordination
- Assists with construction, renovation, and maintenance projects in coordination with University staff and external contractors.
- Supports event logistics including room setup and breakdown, AV coordination, and on-site troubleshooting.
- Serves as a liaison with external partners related to facilities and grounds maintenance.
- Supports sustainability and energy-efficiency initiatives for buildings and grounds.
- Organization, Efficiency & Continuous Improvement
- Maintains clean, well-organized workspaces, storage areas, tools, vehicles, and equipment using standardized systems that promote safety, efficiency, and ease of use.
- Establishes and follows clear routines, schedules, and checklists for recurring tasks to ensure consistency and reliability.
- Applies practical, common-sense approaches to organization and workflow improvement to reduce waste, prevent errors, and improve response time.
- Assists in documenting basic procedures for facilities, grounds, and event support activities.
- Actively identifies opportunities to improve how work is organized and completed and communicates suggestions to leadership.
- Coordination & Communication
- Assists with scheduling and day-to-day coordination of custodial and grounds work.
- Participates in meetings, trainings, and professional development activities as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned

Required Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent with minimum four (4) years of related full-time experience in facilities maintenance, building operations, custodial services, grounds maintenance, construction, or a related field OR
- Technical degree, trade school training, or certifications in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, construction, landscaping, or facilities/building maintenance.
- Minimum two (2) years of related full-time experience in facilities maintenance, building operations, custodial services, grounds maintenance, construction, or a related field.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by programs and events.
- Ability to respond to after-hours alarms or system failures within 30 minutes.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including lifting up to 50 pounds and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Report.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Experience supporting construction or renovation projects.
- Experience working in an educational, public-facing, or event-driven facility.
- Familiarity with continuous improvement or similar workplace organization and efficiency practices.
- Familiarity with sustainability practices in facilities or grounds management.
