The SSC tutoring program is CRLA (College Reading and Learning Association) certified. If hired, students are expected to complete 10 hours of training. This position assists students in improving academic achievement, supports students by reviewing and clarifying learning problems, and provides useful study skills to students who need supplemental help. University Student Assistant - SSC Peer Tutor - Tutoring Services (Spring 2025)

Provides tutoring to individuals and small groups in the Student Success Center (SSC) located in the Houston Cole Library, 2nd floor. The SSC tutoring program is CRLA (College Reading and Learning Association) certified. If hired, students are expected to complete 10 hours of training. This position assists students in improving academic achievement, supports students by reviewing and clarifying learning problems, and provides useful study skills to students who need supplemental help. Additionally, peer tutors provide subject-area knowledge and serve as a model for students in the techniques, strategies, attitudes, and beliefs that successful learners employ as they acquire new knowledge, solve problems, and complete academic tasks. Tutors may also provide drop-in tutoring assistance to students based on requests for academic assistance.
Tutors must possess knowledge of subject area material beyond a basic level; have excellent communication skills; the ability to provide an active learning experience for students by explaining difficult concepts and providing examples for explorations. Other assistance might include reviewing class material and discussing the text and course content.

University Student Assistant - Student Media Business Manager (Spring 2025)

The Student Media Business Manager supports the operation of Jax State’s
student media outlets – The Chanticleer and WLJS 91.9 FM – by developing financial
support appropriate for each outlet.
Specifically, the business manager helps the WLJS program director develop
and manage relationships with businesses, nonprofit groups, individuals, and other entities
to develop support for WLJS 91.9 FM, JSU’s student-run radio station, across all its platforms,
which may include terrestrial broadcasting, digital streaming audio, podcasts, the web, social
media and other forms of media. The business manager maintains contact with existing
patrons and advertisers and initiates contact with potential new patrons and advertisers to
develop financial and other forms of support for WLJS and The Chanticleer in their mission to
serve JSU students and the broader university community.
The business manager also manages the sale and publication of advertising for The
Chanticleer across all its platforms, which may include the web, social media, print and other
forms of media.
As a member of the student media staff, the business manager works closely with
the other student staff members and with the director of student media. The business
manager also must be or become familiar with FCC requirements pertaining to WLJS’s
broadcast license and help ensure compliance with those requirements from the student staff
and in the station’s agreements with patrons. The business manager also must be or become
familiar with ethical and legal issues around the publication of advertising in student media.

Specifically, the news & talk director is responsible for developing informational and entertainment programming that relies on speech and conversation to ensure WLJS provides programs that are of value to JSU students and the broader university community.
As a member of the WLJS student staff, the news & talk director works closely with the other student staff members and with the director of student media. The news & talk director must be or become familiar with the Society of Professional Journalists’ Code of Ethics and use the code as a guide. University Student Assistant - SSC 2nd Floor Front Desk Assistant (Spring 2025)

The duties of a front desk assistant in the Student Success Center (SSC) are to provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, and staff, direct students to the appropriate tutor or staff member in the SSC, ensure that students are checked in/out of JSU Navigate, and to assist with monitoring the SSC 2nd floor. Front desk assistants must have strong communication skills and should be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Understanding and compliance of FERPA is mandatory.
Front desk assistants must be available for all mandatory training sessions, meetings, and workshops.
They must be flexible and available to work outside of their class schedules, they must be dependable, and they must be punctual for their shifts. All SSC front desk assistants are expected to work well with their peers in an academic environment, and they must be willing to work with a diverse population. Knowledge of the SSC, academic support, tutoring, student resources, and other campus service departments is expected.
