8:00am – 4:30pm Monday – Friday

(Hours vary depending on Department Needs and Class Schedule)

Position Summary:

*This position is located at the McClellan Center – 100 Gamecock Drive, Anniston, Al 36205*

The Victory Workforce Development Services, Intern, is a part of a multidisciplinary team at the Victory Workforce Development Services (VWDS) who serves as the bridge between workforce services and essential community resources. The VWDS Intern manages referral partnerships by continuous engagement post-referral, ensuring the provision of quality services. This position assist the VWDS Specialist in understanding resources and needs within the Victory Workforce Development Services Community. This is a grant funded position.

Positions may be filled based on individual applicants’ skills, qualifications, and departmental needs.

Adheres to all department and University policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides comprehensive case management to veterans and their spouses who are seeking career readiness training and other supportive services
  • Interviews veterans and/or their spouses
  • Answers phone calls, taking messages, scheduling appointments and providing appropriate referrals as necessary
  • Prepares and maintains confidential and sensitive information for reports and services
  • Consults with service providers and community partners on resource-related issues
  • Collaborates with VWDS Team to perform training, workshops, professional development and career readiness services as necessary
  • Develops network of trusted contacts within organizations in which to refer and coordinate training
  • Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings
  • Follows care to ensure veterans and/or their spouses receive appropriate services
  • Assists Veterans and/or their spouses to navigate service providers across multiple systems of care
  • Provides services in-office or via team’s platform, as required
  • Provides workforce development services
  • Manages, tracks, records services provided
  • Develops reports and submits to supervisor for review for submission to Project Director/Principle Investigator of grant
  • Oversees partner organizations at the VWDS
  • Assists with the planning and implementation of all sustainability initiatives
  • Works at McClellan facility and community partner locations for training and/or events as required
  • Additional operational and administrative duties as required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively via oral or written means
  • Ability to present a friendly and positive demeanor to veterans, their families, staff, supportive services personal, funders, and the general public.
  • Ability to make oral presentations
  • Ability to remain calm and maintain self-control during difficult circumstances and
  • emergencies
  • Ability to adapt to change and respond in a professional manner in all situations
  • Working knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience working with workforce development records preferred
  • Ability to think analytically and evaluate the impact of training recommendations and adjust, as needed
  • Ability to set work priorities and to evaluate and create solutions to work related problems
  • Strong math skills, ability to assists veterans and/or their spouses with budgets when necessary.
  • Ability to assist clients by sharing appropriate information to make professional development decisions
  • Knowledge of workforce services, federal, state, and community resources
  • Experience working with veterans and or the military population

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be enrolled as a JSU student taking at least three (3) hours per fall or spring semester. (Requirements for international students below.*)
  • If not a first-time student, applicant must have a GPA of 2.00 or higher.
  • Selected applicants must provide evidence of student enrollment and GPA (unofficial transcript or printout of enrollment/GPA from MyJaxState.

Notice Regarding International Students:

Due to Visa requirements international students must be enrolled as a full-time JSU student taking at least 12 hours (per fall or spring semester) and possess each of the following:

  •     Passport from their respective country.
  •     F-1 Student Visa or J-1 Exchange Student Visa.
  •     U.S. Customs Form I-94.
  •     Official photo identification.
  •     Official Social Security Card imprinted with “Valid for Work Only” or similar statement.
