Essential Functions:

 •Effective teaching of undergraduate mathematics and statistics courses from introduction to advanced levels.
•Effective teaching of graduate mathematics or statistics courses
•Plans and employs a variety of appropriate instructional/learning strategies and activities which are compatible with the physical facility but serves the needs and capabilities of the students.
•Develops and implements a program of instruction that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students and is consistent with the university, SACS, and ABET accreditation, and state of Alabama study and curriculum guides.
• In order to maximize student achievement, faculty should be able to assess student abilities as related to desired educational goals and objectives.
• In order to provide a general environment conducive to the learning process, the professor should be able to manage the behaviors of learners in the classroom and participate in the management of student behavior in other parts of the campus.
• Continually communicates to students (either in writing or verbally) instructional expectations, student progress or lack of progress.
• Actively participates in and works with university personnel in planning effective instructional goals, objectives, methods and curriculum.
• Must exhibit a commitment and ability to conduct scholarly activities and engage in professional, university, and community service.
• Participates in professional growth and development activities including staff meetings, and in-service and staff development activities as required or assigned.
• Assists in the documentation of student progress by efficiently maintaining and submitting appropriate records and reports.
• Ensures that the classroom or instructional environment is healthful and safe and generally conducive to learning.
• Agrees to participate in extra curricular activities as requested by the head of the department or Dean of the college.
• Serves on various committees.
• Participates and belongs to educational/professional associations (within concentration) and participates in their activities.
• Takes attendance and keeps attendance registers, according to JSU policy.
•Effective advising of mathematics majors.
•Define, conduct, and publish sustained inquiry in one or more areas of mathematics or statistics. This includes, but is not limited to, publication in refereed journals, presentation at professional meetings, submission of research proposals for grants, presentation to faculty groups, and/or development of new curricula, teaching methods, or programs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Minimum Qualifications:

 

Doctorate in Mathematics ( specialization in Applied Mathematics) or Statistics or ABD with completion of doctorate by August 2018

Additional Information:

• Rank and salary are contingent upon qualifications, experience and needs of the university.

•In the event that this tenure-track position is not filled as tenure-track, applicants may be considered for a temporary or visiting position for one year.

Cover letter, CV, teaching philosophy, unofficial transcripts, are required to be attached. Also, three letters of recommendation are required. Optionally, other supporting documents may be attached.
