Essential Functions:

Assist students in the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) Tutoring Center or at a campus satellite tutoring center. Clerical assistants are responsible for checking students in and out of Grades First and running weekly reports. All clerical assistants must have good communication skills and be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Must attend mandatory training sessions and required workshops, be flexible and available to work outside of their class schedules, must be dependable and punctual for scheduled appointments, complete tutorial reports in a timely manner, and work well with students in an academic environment. Additionally, clerical assistants must be willing to work with a diverse student population.

Minimum Qualifications:

·         Minimum of 3.0 college GPA or higher required

·         Must have earned an A or B in all courses you wish to tutor

·         Have faculty recommendation

·         Must have completed at least one semester of full-time attendance at JSU

·         Enrolled as a JSU student taking at least three (3) hours per fall or spring semester

·         Applicants must attach under “Transcript” an unofficial copy of their student transcript or class registration as evidence of student enrollment and GPA.

·         Must be willing to tutor during the evening hours and during times that do not conflict with your class schedule

Notice Regarding International Students:

·         Due to Visa requirements international students must be enrolled as a full-time JSU student and possess each of the following:

a.      Passport from their respective country.

b.      F-1 Student Visa or J-1 Exchange Student Visa.

c.      U.S. Customs Form I-94.

d.      Official photo identification.

e.      Official Social Security Card imprinted with “Valid for Work Only” or similar statement.

All International Students must receive clearance for work with an International Programs representative to ensure compliance with Immigration regulations. Please visit their website for more information. 

   

Preferred Qualifications:

·         Speaks and listens to others, in person, over the telephone and electronically.

·         Makes presentations to large and small groups.

·         Reads documents written in English.

·         Uses a computer keyboard and monitor.

·         Moves from building to building on campus.

Excellent communication skills; ability to connect with students and university staff; openness to training and skills development; possesses good time management skills; ability to plan effective tutoring sessions; ability to assist with other assigned office/clerical duties.
