Job Summary:

The Director of Continuing Education & Outreach is responsible for providing leadership, management, development, execution, and oversight of the daily operations, long-term vision and goals, and tactical strategies for the Continuing Education & Outreach programs for Jacksonville State University. The Director is responsible for ensuring that JSU’s education programming, outreach services and engagement activities, and public use spaces are meeting the needs of our diverse community.

Essential Functions:

  • Cultivates and maintains relationships in Calhoun County and beyond to further the integration of community engagement, continuing education, and outreach work of the JSU in the communities.
  • Plans, directs and coordinates the activities of the Office of Continuing Education to assist adults in defining non-credit educational goals and to encourage pursuing educational opportunities available at JSU.
  • Oversees both on-campus and remote operations, and includes all noncredit courses and programs, community-based education, and customized training for business and industry.
  • Prepares and implements a comprehensive marketing plan for continuing education.
  • Ensures established non-credit programs meet all SACS criteria.
  • Coordinates programs by selecting site locations, preparing and coordinating advertising, securing course accreditation, contacting faculty/speakers/presenter and arranging catering and audiovisual services when needed.
  • Collaborates with businesses and industry, professional associations, and advisory boards to access training needs, submit proposals, designs, develops, and delivers  customized training for business clients as needed.
  • Manages approximately 2,000 non-credit courses, 56 certificate programs, and various conferences and professional development programs.
  • Manages ongoing training partnerships with local and regional agencies and departments.
  • Plans and coordinates supportive programs, activities and classes for new adult students concerning study skills; personal enrichment; contract programs for business, industry and government agencies.
  • Plans and directs non-credit courses, conferences and institutes to provide members of the community with opportunities to engage in learning experiences through utilization of JSU educational resources.
  • Maintains liaison between JSU and the community to promote the continued education programs for adults through University credit or non-credit courses.
  • Prepares and coordinates marketing materials for programs; develops advertisements, brochures, Fall and Spring catalogs and flyers.
  • Prepares course curriculum material.
  • Prepares reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
  • Determines fiscal requirements and prepares budgetary recommendations; monitors, verifies and reconciles expenditure or budgeted funds
  • Recruits, supervises, and evaluates faculty, facilitators and personnel in continuing education.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information exposed to in the course of business regarding students, supervisors or other employees.
  • Collaborates with academic affairs and the Department of Human Resources to identify new continuing education courses and programs.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Education or a related field (e.g., Arts Education, Music Education), or Business, and
  • At least five (5) years successful experience in continuing education or related professional experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An advanced business or academic degree is preferred, and
  • At least 5 years’ related experience with a similar program
  • Experience working in Higher Education in the State of Alabama
  • Experience in developing continuing education courses and programs
