Position Summary:

The Gamecock Market Assistant is a member of JSU’s Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. The duties of the Market Assistant are to assist the campus community with food, clothing (professional and casual), hygiene products, and school supplies.

Positions may be filled based on individual applicants’ skills, qualifications, and departmental needs.

**Must be eligible for Federal Work Study. If uncertain of eligibility, please contact the Office of Financial Aid. 

Daily Duties:

  • Prepare food and clothing orders that are requested through the Gamecock Market Order form.
  • Set out the filled orders for pick-up, on the table outside of the Gamecock Market entrance.
  • Professionally communicate using JSU Microsoft Teams Chat to contact individuals when their order is ready for pickup. Provide effective instructions and directions by email and Teams chat for Gamecock Market First time users.
  • Keep notice when inventory is low on frequently requested food or hygiene items.
  • Keep Gamecock Market bags in stock to fill orders.

Food Donation Duties:

  • Place new donations in the assigned locations on the shelves.
  • Discard any expired, opened, or damaged food in the outside dumpster.
  • Write the expiration year of can goods on top of cans.
  • Rotate the most current year can goods to the front of the shelves.

Casual Clothing Duties:

  • Separate Casual clothing from Professional clothing.
  • Discard damaged clothing into the outside dumpster.
  • Sort and Mark Casual Clothing sizes using the color chart provided.
  • Mark the size of casual clothing.
  • Place sized casual shirts on the rack by the entrance.
  • Fold the sized casual jeans on the shelf by the entrance.

Cleaning Duties:

  • Break down boxes and take them to the outside dumpster.
  • Sweep the floor.
  • Place full empty trash in the hall to be emptied.
  • Arrange items that are unorderly on shelves.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be enrolled as a JSU student taking at least six (3) hours per fall or spring semester. (Requirements for international students below. *)
  • If not a first-time student, the applicant must have a GPA of 2.50 or higher.
  • Selected applicants must provide evidence of student enrollment and GPA (unofficial transcript or printout of enrollment/GPA from MyJSU.
  • Must be eligible for Federal Work Study.
  • May not be a Dual Enrollment Student.
