Assistant Professor, Counseling and Instructional Leadership

The Department of Professional Counseling and Leadership invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Instructional Leadership. This faculty member will teach graduate and doctoral-level coursework within the Instructional Leadership program and contribute substantively to the Doctorate of Educational Leadership (EdD). The successful candidate must hold a valid Alabama Instructional Leadership certificate or an equivalent credential and demonstrate experience supporting doctoral candidates through dissertation development, research design, and scholarly writing. The position emphasizes practitioner-scholar preparation, applied research, leadership development, and collaborative service.

This position requires the following qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate (EdD or PhD) in Instructional Leadership, Educational Leadership, or a closely related field
  • Valid Alabama Instructional Leadership certificate or equivalent leadership credential or the ability to earn an Alabama certification
  • Experience in P–12 educational leadership
  • Demonstrated experience supporting doctoral research and dissertation development

The department will give priority to applicants who have:

  • Experience teaching in graduate and doctoral leadership programs
  • Experience chairing or serving on dissertation committees
  • Experience with online or hybrid doctoral instruction
  • Evidence of scholarly publications or applied research

The position has an anticipated start date of August 1, 2026.

The mission of the Professional Counseling & Leadership department is to provide to students instruction related to knowledge, skills, and dispositions of the specific area of their major.
