Work Hours:
Normal hours M-F 7:30am to 4:30pm but may vary depending on University need and some evening and weekend for special events.
Job Summary:
The Electrician III in Capital Planning and Facilities performs skilled installation and electrical maintenance work on the master level in accordance with standard practices of the trade. Assignments are received orally or in writing and may be accompanied by penciled sketches or plans. The Electrician III works independently in carrying the duties through to completion, although a maintenance supervisor may check the work while in process. Completed assignments are tested for operation. Supervision of others may be involved.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Installs, maintains, alters, and repairs wiring, lighting, power appliances, light machinery, overhead circuits, underground conduits, and pole lines.
- Installs and makes electrical repairs on specialized equipment such as refrigeration units, dish washers, hot plates, fans, ovens, ranges, water heaters, and other similar equipment.
- Installs, maintains, and repairs smaller electric motors, generators, and related moderately complex electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Pulls and resets fuses on high voltage lines.
- Disables sub-station to eliminate power in order to work on distribution system.
- Drives university trucks and vans.
- Changes light bulbs and installs / replaces ballasts.
- Speaks and listens to individuals in person and over the radio or telephone.
- Works in a telescoping lifting device to heights of 20 to 30 feet in order to change bulbs on the interior of tall buildings and exterior pole lighting.
- Other duties as assigned
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Any combination of training and experience equivalent to: Graduation from high school or completion of the GED.
- Considerable experience as a journeyman electrician.
- Valid Alabama state driver’s license.
