Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Director, the Manager of Sales and Visitor Services is responsible for overseeing the Canyon Center gift shop, front desk operations, facility rentals and scheduling, event coordination, volunteer management, and visitor experience initiatives. This position serves as a primary point of contact for Canyon Center guests and vendors while supporting revenue generation and public engagement activities.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees the daily operation, appearance, and performance of the Canyon Center gift shop, including purchasing, merchandising, inventory management, and marketing initiatives.
  • Manages operations of the Canyon Center outdoor amphitheater, including ticket sales, vendor coordination, and basic audio-visual and lighting setup.
  • Coordinates and assists with planning and execution of events, programs, performances, educational activities, and facility rentals.
  • Serves as the primary coordinator for facility scheduling and rental activities, including weddings, retreats, tours, meetings, and special events.
  • Supervises front desk and gift shop staff to ensure high-quality visitor service and operational efficiency.
  • Recruits, trains, schedules, and supervises volunteers supporting daily operations and special events.
  • Serves as liaison to artists, vendors, caterers, performers, tenants, and community partners.
  • Welcomes and assists Canyon Center visitors, providing exceptional customer service and information about programs, facilities, and regional outdoor recreation opportunities.
  • Supports educational initiatives and partnership programs that promote conservation, environmental stewardship, and community engagement.
  • Assists in developing partnerships and revenue-generating opportunities with external organizations and community groups.
  • Supports sustainability initiatives and promotes safe work practices throughout facilities and operations.
  • Operates equipment associated with theater, retail, and visitor service operations.
  • Participates in professional meetings, conferences, presentations, and travel related to University and Canyon Center operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
    Or
  • Minimum four (4) years of event management experience
    With
  • Experience in sales, hospitality, retail operations, visitor services, or customer engagement.
  • Interest in conservation, environmental education, and outdoor recreation.
  • Public speaking or customer-facing experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with event planning, scheduling, or venue operations.
  • Experience supervising staff or volunteers.
  • Experience with retail inventory systems, ticketing, or point-of-sale operations.
